TECHNICAL ASSIGNMENTS

Tech Assignment 1

Technical Report 1 is an analysis of the structural concepts and existing building conditions of the Fairfield Inn and Suites. A description of the structural system, as well as, the codes and materials used are all included. A wind and seismic analysis was conducted on the lateral building system, along with gravity load spot checks that checked the existing building members.

Tech Assignment 2

Technical Assignment 2 is an analysis of the existing floor system for the Fairfield Inn and Suites, which is a Hollow-core precast concrete plank system on load bearing masonry. In addition, an analysis of alternative floors systems designed for the building. The alternative systems designed are:

Hollow-core Precast Concrete Planks on steel
Non-composite Steel Framing
Two-Way Post Tensioned Slab

A comparison of each system was taken to determine which system would be the most feasible alternative system that could be used in the Fairfield Inn and Suites.

Tech Assignment 3

Technical Assignment 3 is an analysis of the lateral system for the Fairfield Inn and Suites. The lateral system is comprised of concrete masonry shear walls around the exterior of the building and surrounding the core staircases in the building. An ETABS model of the building was created to verify hand calculations for the center of rigidities, relative stiffness, torsional and direct shear, story drifts and displacements, and overturning moments. Lateral checks were performed to verify the lateral system is adequate to resist and lateral forces against the building.
